First Look at The Lament of Lady Mary

I bet you thought the week was going to go by without any kind of update from the guys and gals here at Unseen Shadows? Well you would be wrong. Today we give you a first look at The Lament of Lady Mary By Pete Rogers with art and letters being provided by Conor Boyle.

The story focuses on a mother dealing with her son’s return from war. In this case the war is the First Crusade and the mother Lady Mary Cademus, whose son is Sir Oliver Cademus. Readers of the Fallen Heroes novel will know that Sir Oliver is the spiritual leader of the Book of Cademus, the chief baddies in the novel.

Lady Mary Cademus lost both the men she loved in the First Crusade.  But now eight years later one of them, her son Oliver, has returned alive.   And he isn’t alone.

“So who are they?  The six who ride with you, the quiet ones who have your ear.”

Here are two pages of glorious pencils for you to drool over as well as an early look at the cover.

Bob Kelsey is a reporter on the run from a centuries old cult he made the mistake of falling foul of. Unable to keep his reporter’s nose for a story out of other people’s business he now runs an underground blog investigating the weird, the strange and the downright surreal.

So here it is folks the first Unseen Shadows web comic featuring investigative reporter Bob Kelsey in ‘Neck on the Line’ written Virgil Yendell with art by James Evans. Bob Kelsey Investigates: ‘The Immaculate Abortion of Dina Leigh’ Free For a Day On Free Comic Book Day

Seeing as we are celebrating Free Comic Book Day with the launch of the Bob Kelsey Investigates Web Comic we thought we would give you an extra surprise. To really get you immersed in Kelsey’s world we have decided that for the duration of Free Comic Book Day (4th May) to give away a free digital download of his first adventure outside of the Fallen Heroes novel The Immaculate Abortion of Dina Leigh. The 22 page comic was written by Cy Dethan, with art by Valia Kapadai and letters by Nic Wilkinson. In many ways if Bob Kesley Investigates: was a TV series then The Immaculate Abortion of Dina Leigh would be the feature length pilot episode. The great thing about this comic and the first Bob Kelsey Investigates tale ‘Neck on the Line’ is it doesn’t matter which one you read first. A pdf  of the comic will be available to download for one day only so don’t miss out tomorrow when the links go live!

In the meantime here’s  the synopsis, cover and a 4 page preview.

The Truth makes liars of us all. The Truth will kill you, or get you killed. It’ll steal your marriage and your daughter’s love. The Truth will get you shot and left for dead in the desert…

So when a woman tells you she woke up in a bathtub full of blood and ice with stitches in her belly that she can’t explain, you’ll know it’s the Truth because nothing else smells or feels or hurts that bad – and you’ll fall for it all over again, even though you know you were lucky before and it’ll burn you even worse this time.

This, then, is the story of The Immaculate Abortion of Dina Leigh – and I’m daring you to call me a liar…

“Bob Kelsey is an everyman in a world populated with monsters and heroes. To survive in those hunting grounds takes the self-preservation instincts of a feral rat. That’s what Bob Kelsey is to me.” – Cy Dethan.

Bob Kelsey Investigates: ‘Neck on the Line’ Set to Celebrate Free Comic Book Day

So as tomorrow is Free Comic Day (waits for cheers and applause to die down) and it’s a great day for us comic folk and now finally we here at Unseen Shadows thought we would throw our hat into the ring. To coincide with Free Comics Day we will be releasing the first ‘Bob Kelsey Investigates’ story ‘Neck on the Line‘. The story is written by Virgil Yendell with art by James Evans.

For those of you who don’t know Bob Kelsey is a reporter on the run from a centuries old cult he made the mistake of falling foul of. Unable to keep his reporter’s nose for a story out of other people’s business he now runs an underground blog investigating the weird, the strange and the downright surreal. If you remember the old show ‘Kolchak: Night Stalker‘ starring Darren McGavin, which was a heavy influence on the creation for the X-files TV show, then lets just say Kelsey and Kolchak would get along just fine. In this first adventure we see Bob relaxing after his latest case and relating his tale to anyone who will listen. The story is only two pages long and you don’t need to have read the Fallen Heroes novel or any of the spin off material to enjoy this fun short story.

We are currently already working on two more Bob Kelsey Investigates tales so watch this space for more news and look out for the comic tomorrow. In the meantime here’s panel to give you a taste of what to expect.

Blood Cries Out Page 14: First Look at the Reverend

So in case you thought the team working on Blood Cries Out have been sitting on their thumbs doing nothing I thought I’d drop by to shatter that illusion. The problem is the pages after our last preview are pretty spoiler heavy (but boy are they stunning) so we wanted to wait to get to a spot where we could give you something to look at which wouldn’t spoil the story. To that end here, for your viewing pleasure, is not only our first look at the Reverend but also a nice big hint of which Fallen Heroes alumni will be sharing some panel time with our holy weapon of god.

Hopefully we’ll be able to show off this panel in full colour courtesy of Gat soon but I’m sure you agree that Cy,Nic and Steve have done some stunning work on this page. If you’ve not checked out the Blood Cries Out preview then here’s the link to the PDF.
