Kathryn Monroe Sketch from Historia

Been a little while since we’ve had some updates on the Unseen Shadows website but that is about to change as we have a load of news to tell you. Look out for more posts this week but to begin with we give a long overdue welcome to writer Lizzie Boyle who joins the Unseen Shadows world.

Some of you may already know Lizzie from her work over at  Disconnected Press. After reading Fallen Novels Lizzie came at me with a fantastic idea for a story on Kathryn Monroe, who we saw recently solving a high profile murder in Historia. In this new story ‘The Heart Which Makes Us‘ we get to see a younger and less disciplined Kathryn tackling her first big case. In many ways this almost feels like ‘Monroe Begins’ as a lot of the groundwork in the story sets up who Kathryn will will become. The story also gives us the first appearance in a Unseen Shadows title of fellow Torch Operative Luther Washington. Those of you who have read the novel will know how much of a big role Luther’s plays so it’s great to see him making his first appearance outside of Fallen Heroes.

The script is now finished (and yes it is all kinds of awesome) and Lizzie and I are currently on the hunt for an artist to take on the story. More news as we have it.

‘The Chimera Factor’:1st Draft Complete and New Sketch

So with the first draft of The Chimera Factor in the bag (thanks Richmond) I am currently working with Richmond to iron out the kinks before we pass it over to Alex Moore so she can get started on the art.

Just to give you a taste of what’s the come here’s a another character sketch from the story from Alex’s pen. This time it’s the turn of Secretary General of the United Nations Jane Morton. If you’ve read the novel you will already know the role Jane plays in the story but I won’t spoil it for those who haven’t read the novel yet. Of course like all positions Morton always has her own agenda.

The Chimera Factor picks up about two years after the end of Fallen Heroes. It’s a mild spoiler but we see Steph now working for the United Nations as part of special task force called ‘Operation Sunset’. The remit of the task force is the complete destruction of the cult known as The Book of Cademus.

Enjoy the sketch and more info soon!

Darren Brown Joins Ashfall and First Look at Page 1 in Full Colour

So it’s been a since we had an update for Ashfall which stars Napoleon Stone and his mentor Nathan Ash so I reckon it was about time for one and it’s a biggie. I’m using this post to welcome Darren Brown to the team who will be handling the colours for the project to complement Peter Mason’s (Cancertown 2) art and Paul Mclaren’s lettering. As part of his welcome to the Ashfall creative team Darren has provided us with a full colour page 1 for everyone to enjoy.

Ashfallp1

In case you’ve forgotten here is the blurb for Ashfall which is written by Dan Thompson (Band of Butchers)

Napoleon Stone faces his greatest challenge, as he sets out to hunt down the very man who trained him! For thirty years Nathan Ash was the best in the business but now he’s gone rogue and Napoleon is on his trail with orders to bring the old man in, dead or alive!

Dan Thompson (Band of Butchers, Moon) and Peter Mason (Cancertown 2) bring you a tale of lies, loyalty and left hooks in the latest action-packed comic from the world of Barry Nugent’s best selling Unseen Shadows saga!

First Look at the New Unseen Shadows Graphic Novel ‘The Chimera Factor’

So as we previously announced  Cy Dethan, Nic Wilkinson, Steve Penfold and Gat Melvyn are currently working on the very first Unseen Shadows graphic novel Blood Cries Out. Not to be left behind the creative team behind the Kathryn Monroe adventure Historia which featured in the anthology Tale of the Forgotten are returning with their own graphic novel entitled The Chimera Factor.

The story which stars ex navy pilot Stephanie Connisbee who we last saw in the comic one shot Operation Solomon, which was part of the Tales of the Fallen anthology. The tale written by Richmond Clements, with art by Alex Moore and letters by Paul Mclaren which sees Steph on the hunt for a secret weapon and uncovering a grand conspiracy with global ramifications in the process. Although this will be a stand alone story, like all the Unseen Shadows projects, in terms of a timeline the story will be set after the Fallen Heroes novel.

Richmond is currently penning the script and Alex is putting together some early sketches of the characters. Just to whet your appetite I thought I would kick things off with a full colour sketch of Steph. We don’t have a release date as yet but keep an eye on the website for more details.

A SPECIAL LONDON SUPER COMIC CON PREVIEW FOR BLOOD CRIES OUT

Unseen Shadows Release Special Preview of its First Full Length Graphic Novel Blood Cries Out.

In honour of the second year of the newest UK convention on the block, The London Super Comic Con, the Unseen Shadows creative team have decided to do something special to celebrate their attendance.

The team working on the Unseen Shadow’s first full length graphic novel ‘Blood Cries Out’ are giving readers a special peek behind the curtain with an online four-page preview. Visitors to the Unseen Shadows table (C42) during the convention will also be treated to a closer look at Blood Cries out as well as several other projects in development.

Blood Cries Out is centred on Jonathan Bishop, a relentless vigilante known as ‘The Reverend’. The character made his comic debut in the one shot story Wrath of God written by Cy Dethan with art by Steve Penfold, colours by Gat Melvyn and lettering by Nic Wilkinson. The same creative team have reunited to work on Blood Cries Out.

‘The difference between Wrath of God and Blood Cries Out is significant. Where as Wrath of God was a creation story, this has the potential to be the character’s swan song. Threats so significant and original that not only do they threaten John Bishop physically but threaten to destroy the faith that drives him. Heightened emotion and fundamental questions about humanity go hand in hand with high-octane action sequences and threats from other dimensions. Who wouldn’t love to draw that? Myself and Gat will work hard to bring Cy Dethan’s vision of Barry Nugent’s character to life. We hope it lives up to it’s potential.’ – Steve Penfold

The 88 page graphic novel, to be launched later in the year, will reveal a different side to Bishop as he meets his match in this tale of faith, cults, secret societies and the supernatural.

Barry will be manning the Unseen Shadows table at the London Super Comic Con. ‘I’m looking forward to catching up with some of the other members of the creative team who will in attendance and chatting about Unseen Shadows to visitors at the convention.”

The Unseen Shadows table is located at C42 on the convention floor.

About Blood Cries Out

Reverend Jonathan Bishop is a weapon forged by fate and the cruelties of men, his life an endless crusade waged in shadow and blood. He is a one-man holy war, but he is not the first product of the machinery that created him.

When the twisted Broken Heart cult seeks to conjure and enslave a force they are ill-equipped to control, Bishop must face a custom-built killer who knows him as only a brother can. The Reverend has finally met his equal in battle, and faith alone may no longer sustain him.

About Unseen Shadows

Unseen Shadows Ltd is dedicated to expanding the world and characters created in Fallen Heroes through various transmedia elements. Currently in development are several more comic titles, a five part audio drama, a comic adaption of the Fallen Heroes novel,  a live action web series and more.

“These are not just nice little side stories with no impact on the events surrounding them,” Barry Nugent, the found of Unseen Shadows explains. “The spin-offs expand and enhance the characters lives and relationships within the novels. It was important to me that the spin offs can be read, watched and listened to independently of each other and the novels but you will get more insights into the characters by experiencing everything the Unseen Shadows universe has to offer.”
