Fallen Heroes gets another Waterstone’s signing!

Well I couldn’t have wished for a better start to 2009. Not only have the Milton Keynes branch of Waterstones agreed to stock copies of Fallen Heroes they also invited me to come and do an official signing!

I’m sure the nerves will kick in nearer the time (count on it!) but at the moment I’m just excited to be asked.

The signing is due to take place on Saturday 28th Feb between 11-1 so if you can make please stop by, pick up a copy and say hi!

Fallen Heroes is Nominated for an Award!

The Pearson Prize is a very exciting award because the winners are chosen by a focus group of 100 real high school students. How meaningful to have your book chosen for an award by a real audience of real readers! No more inside politics!

I am pleased to announce that this week I received the email informing me that Fallen Heroes has been nominated in the invite only Platinum Medal section of The Pearson Prize.

“Platinum Medal – Given to the TOP selection from the INVITED BOOKS ONLY. Student’s of the Learning for a Cause Project invite books for the platinum prize by private invitation.”

To have the book nominated for an award is a great way to end a year of hard work but with so much exciting news to report on. I can’t see how this year can hold any more surprises.

Wish me luck!

Fallen Heroes becoming a ‘Cult Hit’ in Europe’s Largest Bookshop

piccadilly_xmas1

To set the scene a friend of mine popped into the Piccadilly branch of Waterstone’s, the flagship branch to buy a copy of Fallen Heroes. Apparently when he asked the member of staff at the counter about the book he was taken straight to where the book was located. He enquired how it was the member of staff knew where the book was and was told.

“It’s becoming quite a cult hit.”

Now being the ever sceptical person I am I sent an email to the branch to try and get a bit more info and the response was this.

Dear Mr Nugent,

Your book is a steady seller here in our branch, faced out in the section.
We will be ordering more in, if you would like to come to sign the copies we have, would be great.

Kind regards

In a word…wow!

Fallen Heroes Licensed for Graphic Novel Adaptation

Insomnia Publications have been “in talks”, with me for a while now about a possible Fallen Heroes graphic novel adaptation. I can now confirm that Insomnia would like to licence the option to develop Fallen Heroes as a graphic novel.

We still need to work together closely to agree the specific contract details over the next few weeks, but I’m confident that the project will proceed. They have also confirmed that under whatever contract we finalise the copyright to the story and characters will remain with me, and Insomnia will be effectively licensing their use from me.

I will be very closely involved in the development of the project in an editorial “executive producer” role. I will also be closely involved with the selection of the creative team for the project.

Nothing has been agreed yet, and no creative team assembled but hopefully there will be some more news soon.

To say I’m excited about this is an understatement. I’m still an avid comic reader so the prospect of seeing the story translated in comic form is just to good to be true. My hope is this will open up the story to a whole new audience.
