Bob Kelsey Investigates: ‘Neck on the Line’ Set to Celebrate Free Comic Book Day

So as tomorrow is Free Comic Day (waits for cheers and applause to die down) and it’s a great day for us comic folk and now finally we here at Unseen Shadows thought we would throw our hat into the ring. To coincide with Free Comics Day we will be releasing the first ‘Bob Kelsey Investigates’ story ‘Neck on the Line‘. The story is written by Virgil Yendell with art by James Evans.

For those of you who don’t know Bob Kelsey is a reporter on the run from a centuries old cult he made the mistake of falling foul of. Unable to keep his reporter’s nose for a story out of other people’s business he now runs an underground blog investigating the weird, the strange and the downright surreal. If you remember the old show ‘Kolchak: Night Stalker‘ starring Darren McGavin, which was a heavy influence on the creation for the X-files TV show, then lets just say Kelsey and Kolchak would get along just fine. In this first adventure we see Bob relaxing after his latest case and relating his tale to anyone who will listen. The story is only two pages long and you don’t need to have read the Fallen Heroes novel or any of the spin off material to enjoy this fun short story.

We are currently already working on two more Bob Kelsey Investigates tales so watch this space for more news and look out for the comic tomorrow. In the meantime here’s panel to give you a taste of what to expect.

First Look at the New Unseen Shadows Graphic Novel ‘The Chimera Factor’

So as we previously announced  Cy Dethan, Nic Wilkinson, Steve Penfold and Gat Melvyn are currently working on the very first Unseen Shadows graphic novel Blood Cries Out. Not to be left behind the creative team behind the Kathryn Monroe adventure Historia which featured in the anthology Tale of the Forgotten are returning with their own graphic novel entitled The Chimera Factor.

The story which stars ex navy pilot Stephanie Connisbee who we last saw in the comic one shot Operation Solomon, which was part of the Tales of the Fallen anthology. The tale written by Richmond Clements, with art by Alex Moore and letters by Paul Mclaren which sees Steph on the hunt for a secret weapon and uncovering a grand conspiracy with global ramifications in the process. Although this will be a stand alone story, like all the Unseen Shadows projects, in terms of a timeline the story will be set after the Fallen Heroes novel.

Richmond is currently penning the script and Alex is putting together some early sketches of the characters. Just to whet your appetite I thought I would kick things off with a full colour sketch of Steph. We don’t have a release date as yet but keep an eye on the website for more details.

Conspiracies and Cults and Spies Oh My! Unseen Shadows Comes to the London Super Comic Con 2013

lscc-event-header

This weekend Unseen Shadows will be in attendance at the second London Super Comic Convention. I attended the first year of the LSCC and had a great time so I figured what the hell and booked up for a second return trip. The convention itself, which is being held on at the Excel center, is entirely focused on comics which sets it apart from shows like the MCM Expo which always has a big film and TV presence.

As I mentioned the focus of the LSCC is comics and I will be embracing that view by bringing along copies of both Tales of the Fallen and Tales of the Forgotten as well as the Unseen Shadows: Year One Digital Collection. Aside from the comics I will also have copies of the Fallen Heroes novel on sale. I also hope to have some artwork from some of the other Unseen Shadows projects on hand to show off as well as talking to anyone who will listen about the project. Also if you’re an artist/colourist who is interested in getting involved with the project then check out the submissions page or just pop along and have a chat with me. You can also drop me an email before the show at barry@unseenshadows.com

You will find the Unseen Shadows stand at C42 (check out the handy floor plan below) and I will be seated next to Dan Thompson (writer on Band of Butchers and Ashfall) and Steve Penfold (Artist on, Fallen Heroes #1 and #2, Wrath of God and Blood Cries Out).
